Project name: “THE ALIGNMENT”
Customer: Greind ehf
Genre: Office tragedy / Data Reality
Runtime: ~3 minutes
Style: The Office meets The Wolf of Wall Street
INT. BOARDROOM – TECH COMPANY, REYKJAVÍK – MORNING
A February drizzle taps against the window. Pale winter light spills into a modern but modest boardroom. There’s a flatscreen TV on the wall. Someone brought pastries. No one has touched it.
Wide shot:
Eight people around a rectangular table.
Laptops open. Coffee mugs everywhere.
Slide on screen: “Q1 KPI ALIGNMENT – MANAGEMENT SESSION”
CAMERA: SLOW ZOOM IN on STEINUNN (CEO)
40s, energetic, still believes in transformation. Has just returned from a motivational offsite in Barcelona.
STEINUNN
Alright. The goal here is clarity. One shared version of the truth. Let’s align on a simple one:
What is an active customer?
BJARNI (CMO)
(leans back, crosses arms, confident)
That’s easy. Anyone who opened one of our last 3 emails.
If they clicked, they’re definitely active. Bonus points if they clicked the funny Unicorn GIF.
CAMERA: CUT TO JÓHANNES (CFO)
50s. Lives in Excel. Eyebrows permanently raised in disbelief. Wears a zip-up fleece like a uniform.
JÓHANNES
(scoffs)
A clicker is not a customer. A customer pays us money.
My pivot table doesn’t care about funny GIFs. Money talks, bullshit walks.
SARA (CTO)
(blunt, sipping from a 1L water bottle)
We define activity by API usage. Any customer with traffic in the last 30 days.
The system doesn’t lie.
LILJA (HR)
(gently, diplomatically)
I hear good points from everyone. I just wonder… are we maybe talking about different kinds of activity?
CAMERA: PUSH IN on STEINUNN, blank stare
STEINUNN
Okay. Let’s just… look at the dashboard.
CAMERA: TRACKING SHOT as everyone turns to the screen.
The dashboard loads. Slowly. Very slowly.
CUT TO SCREEN:
“Active Customers: 12.108”
SARA
(satisfied)
Pulled straight from our database. Refreshed at 5:00 this morning.
JÓHANNES
(frowning)
Can’t be. I had 8.943 in my Excel yesterday.
And I use manual filters. So it's definitely more accurate.
BJARNI
(grabs phone, thumbs quickly)
Marketing has 18.200. From Mailchimp. Downloaded last week.
CAMERA: WHIP PAN across the table as everyone starts talking at once.
SARA (to Bjarni): “Mailchimp? Seriously?”
JÓHANNES (to no one): “Why is the word 'customer' so hard to understand? Marketing data is made up. Like horoscopes.”
LILJA (in a soothing kind of voice): “lets realize that there can be some different versions of the truth. It’s just… diverse perspectives!”
STEINUNN
(hands in the air)
Okay. Stop. Just stop.
Can someone - anyone tell me:
How many customers do we actually have?
BEAT. DEAD SILENCE.
Camera: SLOW ZOOM on GREIND CONSULTANT
Mid-50s. Black hoodie. Observing silently all along. The only one with a Mac Laptop.
GREIND CONSULTANT
(speaks with quiet authority — not a pitch, just the truth)
You’re not the first team to end up here.
Everyone’s got numbers. Everyone’s got tools.
But somehow… no one agrees on what anything means.
Marketing has one story.
Finance has another.
IT built the system, and no one asked what it was tracking.
So you sit in these meetings, arguing over filters and definitions, while the business stands still. Waiting.
At Greind, we don’t build dashboards first.
We build alignment.
We ask the dumb questions.
We help people talk like they’re on the same team. Because they are.
And when the smoke clears, and everyone finally agrees what a customer is...
We build the dashboard.
Not ten dashboards. Not “my version” and “your version.”
Just one.
A single version of the truth.
Clear, visual, trusted.
You can take away our tools.
You can take away our SQL access.
Hell, take away the damn Nespresso Machine.
But you will never take… our shared definition of ‘ A CUSTOMER ’
SMASH CUT TO BLACK
MORGAN FREEMAN-STYLE VOICEOVER (slow, reflective)
(Text fades in line by line. Calm piano underlay optional.)
I guess some folks spend half their lives building dashboards no one trusts.
They keep asking different questions, hoping someday the answers will line up.
But the truth is… they don’t need more data.
They need a moment of alignment.
And when that moment comes…
you either get busy aligning,
or get busy dying.
TEXT ON SCREEN:
Greind 3 Bs
Break silos.
Build insight.
Busy aligning
FADE OUT.
END.
